    • We had two well-behaved cats, they each had a litter box and life was good. Then Smokey arrived, starved, and is still eating like a horse. Furthermore he has no interest in going outside. The results are inevitable. I am relegated to cleaning out the litter boxes on a veritable daily basis. We have exceeded some critical mass and double the number of boxes wouldn't be enough. I swear I'm going to get a small backhoe for the job.

Now the other two cats won't eat their treats anymore...

    • Opened up Google the other night, just as Smokey walked across the keyboard. Assuming the resulting word, name, nonsense, etc. would be a sign from the universe or omen, and that Smokey was thus a living feline ouijja board, I clicked on the result. Unfortunately, there were many websites hit, but all in Lithuanian, or Swahili or some foreign language. The only one I found in English was a porno forum of some kind. So either my cat can't spell, or he has issues beyond his catnip habit.

    • Well Seattle has had its big storm and we feel a bit left out. SE winds are the only thing that can get us, so we had very little wind at all. We do have another inch or two of snow, but the other had already melted off, other than the piles. Power flickered a couple times, but no real worries.

Went out to dump the cat boxes and found found big tracks in the meadow. Followed them around the driveway loop, up beside the house and onto the deck by the hot tub. Unfortunately there were a...

    • The Twelve Shifts of Christmas

On the twelfth shift of Christmas, my charge nurse gave to me:

      Twelve call bells ringing,

      Eleven charts a -flinging

      Ten IV's beeping

      Nine pills for sleeping

      Eight foleys popping,

      Seven sats a-dropping,

      Six staff a-hopping,

      Five SCD's

      Four bladder scans,

      Three bed pans,

      Only Two hands

      And 87 needs an IV

      Dave...

    • Hello all, Melody here. We are finally melting down and were able to drive the van to town yesterday. (11 days after the first snow). We have been working non-stop ( or so it seems) since then, me 7 days in a row, Dave 6, and 2 of them we went in early so we begged off today, needing a do nothing or a least nothing resembling nursing. We have worked together quite a bit, either in my unit (and sometimes I'm the boss!) and last night on his floor. It's actually quite fun to work together...

    • Aarrrgh! Got home late last night and Bubba couldn't get up the last(steepest) 30 feet of the driveway. So at 0100 I had to put on chains by flashlight. I think I could have made it with the front chains, if I had been able to start at the bottom. Unfortunately, the rear end was skewed off to the side, starting to hang over the edge, so I couldn't back up. And Bubba couldn't do more than dig holes with just the front chains. There has been just enough melting to turn the hill into a sheet of...
