    Update

Melody has started her new job, and though she's in hospital orientation this week, it still looks good. She has been gone for what seems like a LONG time, however. I've been working on her bookshelves, and hopefully will have them ready to mount today.

My legs have been a lot more painful lately, and the chiropractor says I indicate a yeast infection in one kidney and my spinal cord. I'm not at all sure you can get yeast into a spinal cord, but anyway I have yet another med to take. Whatever would I do with my day if it weren't centered around pills, sprays, injections, supplements, and exercises? I also have developed a new sensation of something crawling on the back of my neck. Being out in the woods, I have more than once found that to be true, but this is everywhere. In June, social security wanted me to see the doctor again, so they could have more current data from which to decide my disabilty status. It's only been 6 months, and they don't like to rush into these things. So I called the doctor and first available appointment was July 3. Then a week or so ago, the doctor's office called and said she was gong to go out of town that week and next available would be Aug. 4.

Our mystery cat (christened Phantom) is still around. Can't get close to it, have no idea of sex, age, ID, or condition. It comes around after dark to get food, but it's usually nearby. Yesterday it hid up on the top of the woodpile, but the other cats spotted it (this was late afternoon). I got the other cats inside, then went back to talk to it some more, but it was gone again. I have moved the food and water progressively closer to the door each night, and I talk to it through the window when it comes to eat. But if I make too sudden a move or God forbid turn the door handle, it's gone, food or no food. I've never seen such a skittish cat. Smokey was stand-offish for days, but he was so close to death's door when he arrived that he was absolutely bold compared to this cat. It's a beautiful cat and may even belong to somebody, but I'm not sure it's ging to domesticate until winter snow. Of course, the next problem is finding it a home, as I fear I broke Cricket's heart by letting Smokey stay.

It has been gorgeous here the last few days, and I'm reminded of why we want to be here. I hope that his weather is a preview of the summer to come and not the sum total of same. After the bookshelves, the next project will be an outdoor enclosure for the cats (so they aren't locked in the house when we're gone) or the carport roof, or the deck, or the garage, or boat, or wood, or ...

Now if this thing shows up, I'll know the blog still works.
