    • Christmas was good. Kadie woke up entirely too early, but she didn't start tearing into packages until we were all downstairs (which still happened faster than I had planned). After ripping into a package, she would inspect the goods and then hand them to me to open while she very tidily picked up all the paper scraps and put them in the garbage … don't know where that came from, but it was nice to not have to declare my living room a disaster zone. After everything was opened, we sat down for...

    • We've been busy, busy, busy here. I'm getting over a very nasty cold that, thankfully, did not turn into much else. Also, very thankfully, it hasn't spread to Jeff or Kadie. Both Jeff and I are racing against deadlines at work but I got good news yesterday...my company is allowing us to have the 24th off as a paid holiday! Yea! I'm looking forward to a couple of days off (besides the 24th, 25th and 1st, I'm taking the 31st off as well) and a week or so of quieter days in the office (with most...

    • Last Sunday, my current church held a baptism service. I have now learned their stance on baptism - they don't view it as a requirement for salvation but see it as something that God has asked them to do and, in doing it, they are obeying Him. I'm not sure if that's a"step beyond" the Baptist view of doing it for a show of faith or if that's just another way of saying the same thing. Either way, it was still nice to see so many step forward. They had about 25 or 30 people who had planned on...

    • We actually saw flurries yesterday while driving home and, this morning, I saw them again. They're calling for"measurable" snow tonight and more flurries over the weekend with record lows at night. I don't think the outdoor egg hunt with the neighbors is going to happen. Kadie colored 6 eggs with Ms. Tracy yesterday and I think daddy's going to try to color some more with her today so we might hide some around the house for her to find. She doesn't quite"get" the whole Easter egg thing...

    • The east coast half of the Todnems are still alive and kicking (or should I say that we're a third now that we've extended our borders to another hemisphere?). Our latest winter storm was a nasty one. It wasn't the snow that caused the problems, though we got a good 3 or 4 inches up north where we live, it was the freezing rain and sleet that came with it. The next few days are calling for sun but temperatures remaining in the teens and twenties (to instantly freeze anything the sun might...

    • Certainly feels like it but it doesn't want to act like it. (It's been a frustrating day and it's gonna be a long one, too, as I have to stay late at work to make up some hours.) We actually got some real snow Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. It was only about 2 or 3 inches worth, but that's a lot better than the pathetic attempts it had been making up to that point. Of course, that delayed everyone because buildings weren't opening up until 9 am and the roads were still being cleared. We got a...

    • It's been a long couple of weeks and I think my body's trying to tell me"enough is enough." Though I don't want to tempt the fates, I will go so far as to say that I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I'm hoping it will fade as the day progresses, but I've been riding myself pretty hard these past few weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if I've run myself down enough to pick up one of the more than plentiful viruses that are going 'round. So far, every one of the east coast Todnems has...

    • To all you"well wishers" out there that have been bemoaning their cold weather - you've pushed it east. It was a bitter 19 degrees out this morning. Thank goodness for a garage! And heated seats! And third row temp controls! We had clear skies, of course, so no snow but they are calling for rain tomorrow afternoon (when it will be back up in the upper 50s). I just wish it'd make up its mind. Either get cold and give us snow or warm up already. These extreme temperature fluctuations are...
