    • We got a call from Kadie's school today around one, telling us that she had been acting listless so they had taken her temperature...101 degrees. We picked her up and took her home, but we're hoping that this is just a fluke and not another round with supervirus. When we got home, I took her temperature again and it was normal. An hour later, it was 99.6. I'm going to wait to see what the night brings, and what her temp is in the morning, but, with the last go 'round, she was temperature free...

    • Christmas was good. Kadie woke up entirely too early, but she didn't start tearing into packages until we were all downstairs (which still happened faster than I had planned). After ripping into a package, she would inspect the goods and then hand them to me to open while she very tidily picked up all the paper scraps and put them in the garbage … don't know where that came from, but it was nice to not have to declare my living room a disaster zone. After everything was opened, we sat down for...

    • To all the fathers out there...we hope you had a nice day"off" yesterday. Jeff didn't get one as we were finishing up Kadie's play area, but we're taking Wednesday off to wander around town and/or the mall, get some breakfast and lunch and a movie. It'll be like an extended day date as we are unable to have dates during the evening or weekend hours. As I just mentioned, Kadie now has a beautiful play area out back. We put timber down around the swing set that Jeff and his dad put up last summer...

    • 300 (in theaters now)It's a war movie about the Spartans (and later, most of Greece) against the Persian Empire. It's not overly bloody as war movies go but people do die. There are also some minor plots to it, so it's not all about a bloodbath. Overall, it was the manner in which it was filmed that made this movie really stand out.The Holiday (on DVD)It's definitely a chick flick, but I enjoyed it.School for Scoundrels (on DVD)A comedy that suites Billy Bob Thornton well.Mom, I checked into...

    • It's been a long couple of weeks and I think my body's trying to tell me"enough is enough." Though I don't want to tempt the fates, I will go so far as to say that I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I'm hoping it will fade as the day progresses, but I've been riding myself pretty hard these past few weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if I've run myself down enough to pick up one of the more than plentiful viruses that are going 'round. So far, every one of the east coast Todnems has...

    • I've been in a bit of a funk the past few days. I know exactly why, but that doesn't help. I can rationalize it all day long, but it simply boils down to the birthday. I've discovered that it helps a little to not think of myself as that age - that saying I'm 20-10 actually tricks my brain into thinking I'm still in my 20's and doesn't cause the knee-jerk where's-the-whiskey? sort of response in my mood. It's a band-aid fix, but one that I'm using for the time being to preserve my sanity. Let's...

    • Or not...it depends on who you are. I discussed this with Jeff this morning - whether or not I should recommend this movie to anyone - and I think we agreed that, if you're a diehard Nascar or Will Ferrell fan, Ricky Bobby would be a good (not great, necessarily, but good) film to see. If you're neither, don't bother going. Jeff likes Will Ferrell (he a little too"off" for me), but neither one of us knows much about Nascar except that there's a bunch of cars going really fast, 'round and...

    • The movie thing happened, but not without a lot of difficulties. Apparently, either the movie didn't hold the same attraction for Kadie as the Over the Hedge one did, or the fact that she was in big girl panties really distracted her this time 'round. We actually got there after the previews had started, but it wasn't long before the first"mommy, I gotta go" came about. So we ran out to the bathrooms (and we were in the furthest theater, which made it a rather long haul) and all we had was a...

    • It's goin' great so far! We had a mishap with #2 last night. Kadie still doesn't want to go poop on the big girl potty, but we've got her in big girl panties which left Mommy and Daddy with a wonderful job. We made a pretty big deal out of how gross it was and how much we didn't appreciate the clean-up, and when I asked her later what would happen the next time she needed to go poo-poo she said she would go in the toilet, so I'm hoping that was a one-time experience. Is there a smiley face I...

    • We've finally unloaded that white elephant we will always remember, not so fondly, as our first home. We got a call last night (a little after 7) for us to be at the title company at 9 am the next morning, certified check in hand. Oh, crap! We've been saving up our money for closing (we actually had to pay the buyer's closing costs to get this thing off our hands) in Jeff's bank account in Texas. Everything we could think of to get the money here for us to get a certified check would take at...
