    All in a Weeks Work

Posted by Richard on Thursday, May 03, 2007 @ 06:33 PM
Well it seems that Peggy's computer is the only one sensored.  Evidently we have "Good Computer" and "Bad Computer".  We are now both hooked to the satellite and enjoying the faster service but I am missing my power naps.
As to the nation's economy, we have decided to do our part in boosting the GDP.  As many of you know we have been contemplating traveling in the near future.  We were originally thinking about a 5th wheel trailer that we could pull with the pickup.  We even found a model that had all of the features we wanted at a reasonable price.  That was the plan until we took our last road trip this spring.  I found that driving thru large cities with multiple freeways and off ramps was not real comfortable, and that was in the car.  I started extrapolating that into a large pickup and a 32' fifth wheel manuvering thru traffic and came to the conclusion that this was not the answer.  I guess I used up all of my truck and trailer skills back at Flintstone.  It didn't seem like a big deal then but now is a different time.  Maybe it's the Powers traffic. Anyway to make a long story longer, we went grocery shopping in town yesterday and Peggy wanted to stop by the RV place on the way out of town.  We looked at a small motorhome and some campers but didn't realy find anything of interest.  So as we were leaving I made the colossal blunder of suggesting " Do you want to run by the other Rv dealer while we're in town".  Of course, the immediate answer was "Sure we might as well".
Since it's now clear what's coming, I'll skip to the good part.  We found a camper.  I know, your all wondering about having enough room.  Actually we were very suprised as well as we didn't think a camper would be large enough.  It is the biggest size they make, and it has a slide out as well.  It also has a full size queem bed which was a must on our list.  This was the last one of the 2006 models they had and they had it on super sale so the frugal one among us was also very pleased.  All in all it was one of those things that was totally unplanned and yet everything fell into place perfectly.  Well, almost perfectly.  There is one small problem.   The camper can only be hauled on a one ton dually.  Looks like it's time for a new pickup.  Now if I just knew someone who was into pickup info and internet sources etc.  Of course they would also have to be able to read their email more often than once a month.  Hmmm    Then again, that may fall into place as well
On the technical side of the ledger, along with the satellite hookup, new email addresses, and multiple downloads to Peggy's computer, the network router and cables are hooked back up and working.  We are now using Ebay, Paypal, Ameritrade, Quickbooks and FedEx shipping on a regular basis in regular time.  I can almost feel myself slipping into the Matrix.
Have a great week and remember that gratitude pays huge bonuses.  It's one of the best investments you can make.  Five things to be gratfull for?  The five senses.  Which  would you be willing to do without?

At this moment in time?...my sense of smell. Would that knock out a lot of allergy issues? It would definitely take care of the dead skunks that we run by in the mornings and the swimming pool smell that clings to me for hours after we leave the pool.

Any word on travel plans out east?

2008 Ford F-350 or F-450. Need I say more?  If you are looking for a used 6.0 liter, get a 2005 or later. Prior years were more plagued with issues.  If you are interested in something prior to 2005, I'd say a 2002/3 7.3 liter.  But at that point, you're almost back where you started.

I did hear you mention the dreaded "C" word a few posts back.  I realize that the die-hard Ford fans would not approve, but I'd say research all the big names and see which one really fits your bill.  I am still of the opinion that no one builds a better heavy-duty truck than Ford.  But that's just MY opinion.  Cummins engines have a long-standing reputation for quality and durability, but I have no idea how the rest of the Dodge powertrain or peripheral components hold up over time.  If Ford were not around, Dodge would most likely be my next choice for a HD diesel pickup.  Chevy and GMC seem to have the innovative aspect going for them, but they don't have a great reputation for longevity.  Ford seems to be the only one that can give you the best of all worlds; power, durability, and (in my opinion) the best looking truck among the three too.  And if you're looking for hauling capacity, you don't get much higher than the new F-450s without moving to a commercial-grade truck.

Online resources are a mixed bag nowadays.  The dedicated forums for each player seem to focus a lot of light on all the problems with each brand, since most subscribers are online looking for solutions to various issues they've experienced.  Review sites can be extremely biased depending on the site's corporate sponsors and other investing parties.  But nonetheless, I'd suggest looking around as much as you can online before hand.  And then go to various lots and test drive each one.

In conclusion, when you finish your months of dedicated research and determine that Ford is indeed the best choice, you can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that your only son will still allow you to visit.

Congratulations on the new camper!  Isn't is sort of like winning a goldfish at the Fair though?  Win a fish, spend $150.00 on fish equipment....I am sure that you would have enough room, but living in each other's pocket's could get kind of dicey...especially when one of you is eight.

I have to ditto on "Smell."  My kids are in the "it is cool (and funny) to FART" stage....definitely smell.....

AND.....you just had to get Jeff goin' on the Ford truck thing again, didn't you...
